Overcoming Procrastination
Procrastination comes from the Latin word “pro cras”, meaning “for tomorrow”. It means pushing something off until the last minute or failing to do it at all.
Procrastination not only causes us to miss deadlines, but, it can leave us feeling guilty, inadequate, or depressed.
If procrastination leaves us feeling so bad, then why do we do it?
- Fear Of Failure
- Fear Of Success
- Negative Self-Beliefs
- Being Too Busy
- Being Disorganized
- Poor Planning And Time Management
- Depression
* It is essential to reflect on the price we pay every time we procrastinate. *
We create stress, anxiety and depression and it can also cost us in our relationships, career advancements, employment opportunities or in our grades in school.
Since we know this, we NEED to resolve to do something about it!
The earlier we can stop ourselves in the cycle of procrastination, the easier it will be to get back on track.
So, how do we do this?
1. Break down your specific task or goal into small, manageable steps.
2. Write a schedule and set a date by which each step will be completed.
3. GET STARTED!
Take one step at a time so you don’t overwhelm yourself.
Reward yourself a little when you complete each step. Then keep following your schedule and start the next task.
No matter if they are big or small tasks or goals, we need to put procrastination aside if we desire to overcome.
As you complete each step you will gain confidence and soon you will have reached your goal or completed the task. You have overcome procrastination!
Congratulate yourself and keep pressing on to overcome your next desire to procrastinate!
