Overcoming Mental Blocks In Three Easy Steps
Overcoming mental blocks is important in many areas of our lives, whether health related, business or personal.
One of the biggest mental blocks most people face, is thinking too much. If we allow ourselves to spend so much time just thinking about the problem at hand, nothing will ever change, except maybe depression will set in.
There are three key steps to take if we desire to make a change, start a project or improve a relationship.
1) Take action!
We need to take action to prevent ourselves from thinking too much. If we are busy taking action, we won’t have time to think or dwell on our inadequacies, the circumstance or wallow in self-pity. If we make the decision to do what needs to be done and start taking the action to get it done, we won’t have to worry about procrastination.
It we think about a health goal we might have, we need to decide what we want to accomplish, make a plan on how to succeed and then TAKE ACTION.
If I want to lose 10 pounds, sitting around and just thinking about what I need to do will not get me any closer to my goal. Complaining or thinking negative thoughts on how hard it will be to lose 10 pounds also will not help achieve this goal. Being upset that I ate cake and ice cream will not benefit me either. All that needs to be done is learn from mistakes, decide what action needs to be done, and then do it!
2) Change habits to create results!
If we do not change our habits, our results will not change. We cannot expect to have success or meet our goals if we are not willing to make the necessary changes. If we continue to do things the way we always did them, we should expect the same results.
Creating the correct habits is what creates the desired results. This takes conscious effort and diligence. We don’t always feel like doing what is right or necessary, but we must be able to control our thoughts and actions and do what needs to be done. If we do not, we have no right to expect change or success.
3) Be willing to adapt!
Being able to adapt is a game changer. Few people are willing to take action or change habits, and even fewer people are willing to adapt.
When solving a problem or setting a goal, be humble and be willing to adapt as you walk the course.
Be open to making changes if necessary.
Treading water will get you nowhere. If you planned on doing the breast stroke and in the middle of the lake you realized that the back stroke would be better for a season, be willing to adapt and switch strategies.
The road to success and achievement in our personal or business life requires us to overcome our mental blocks and to take action, change habits and be willing to adapt.
Take a few minutes and look at your number one goal. Write a few things down under each of these three categories.
What action should I be taking that I am not?
What habits do I need to change?
How might I need to adapt to new situations or circumstances that have come up on my journey?
If you take the time to honestly evaluate and then do something with the answers you came up with, you will be much closer to overcoming these mental blocks and achieving your desired goals.
