3 Easy Ways To Protect Yourself From Job Insecurity

You go to work faithfully.  So far, you have been paid faithfully for the work you do – although often not really paid what you are worth.

You are grateful that you have a job.  But, is your job really secure?

What would happen if you were laid off?  Don’t think it would happen to you?

Roughly one-in-five American workers have been laid off during the last five years, according to a recent report, raising new doubts about exactly how secure job stability really is within the United States.

The report published out of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University, found that roughly 30 million Americans — or around 20 percent of the workforce — have lost a job during the last five years.

Could having a j.o.b. “only”, be making you less secure?

The answer is: Yes!

According to Wells Fargo in their 2014 report the average retirement age family in the USA only has $28,000 in retirement savings.  This is incredibly scary considering this doesn’t even cover 1 year of retirement for most.

Things can change very quickly.  If you are forced to live on your investments for anytime, you will burn through them very quickly.

Getting passionate about doing something beyond having a j.o.b. to protect your future may be easier than you think.

Even very successful people have a Plan B.

Three Things To Do Now To Protect Yourself From Job Insecurity
(Or turn things around quickly)

1.    START A BUSINESS – I am not talking about anything big, not buying a franchise or opening a store.

Start something small that is built around what you love to do or what you are good at doing.

Or, you can partner up with a company that has been around 20-30 years and has a proven track record.  One that does not require high start-up fees or carrying of inventory.

2.    TAXES – Did you know that most of us work at our jobs from January to May…just to pay our tax bill?

When you start a business, spend 5-10 hours a week on it, try to make money and keep some basic records, you can, on average, cut your current W2 tax bill in half.  Dr. Ron Mueller,Ph.D., America’s number 1 tax educator says that the average family can see between $3,000 to $6,000 in tax savings annually by having a real part-time business.

3.    LEARN MORE – Eric Hoffer the philosopher was quoted as saying, “In the times of greatest change, the learners inherit the earth and the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.”

This is very true.  It is so easy to hide behind our job, seniority and our title, but we all need to continue growing.  We need to continue learning.

Seek mentoring from those specialists in the areas that you desire to grow.  Commit yourself to take personal responsibility to keep learning and growing not just for you, but more importantly, for those that you love.

Read, read, read.

Taking action on these 3 things can change everything for you.  Fast!  They can potentially make and save you more money now, but they can also protect you from an uncertain future including, possible career and/or economic melt-downs.

What if you could live off of the money from your very own business doing what you love most?

What if you could have 100% confidence that you are self-sustaining?

How would that feel?

Take responsibility and create your own security, knowing that you are in control of your finances, not your boss or the economy.

Job insecurity is no joke.  Take a little time to educate yourself, take advantage of the way the tax system is set up to benefit the business owner, not the employee, and start a business

This will create security, rather than job insecurity, and you just might build a bigger nest egg or pay off a few more bills as well.

Vision And Goal Setting Secrets

Legendary Jim Rohn says the most valuable lessons lie not in the destination, but the journey.

“The real value in setting goals is not in their achievement. The acquisition of the things you want is strictly secondary. The major reason for setting goals is to compel you to become the person it takes to achieve them.”

What are your goals and what kind of person do you desire to become?

Contemplating your goals, consider the journey it is going to take to get there.  Do you have enough passion about your destination that the ups and downs and bumps in the road will not deter you?

If you stumble, will you rise, brush the dust off your knees and continue on?  Or, will you turn back and go down the easy road?

It's been estimated that we each have upwards of 50,000 thoughts per day. How many of yours are negative?  How many are positive?

Do you tend to see the glass half empty or half full?

“Dissatisfaction and discouragement are not caused by the absence of things but the absence of vision.” — Anonymous

If you lack vision or if your vision is not clear, you will be dissatisfied and be easily discouraged, discouraged to the point of paralysis.  You need to paint a vision that is clear and detailed!  Speak positively about it.  See yourself accomplishing it.

When you speak affirmations and visualize your results, they may not feel true at first.  They may not even be true.  But they can become true if you see them long enough and take action.

Many of us set goals at the beginning of year…how are you doing?  Have you accomplished any of them or have you come closer to their realization?

Dreams give us the vision; goals set the actions to get us there.

What actions have you taken faithfully to get closer to your goals?

It is never too late to evaluate and make changes and start taking action.

You have heard it said, "I'll believe it when I see it."  Well, the reverse is also true: "I'll see it when I believe it!"

If you do not see the end result you are striving to accomplish, you can bet that there is a very slim chance that you will ever reach the destination you desire.  And as I said earlier, if your goals are not something that you are passionate about achieving, it will be a very long road and most likely you will end up going back to familiarity and the easy road.

What is that driving reason on WHY you do your daily routine and WHO do you want to become?

If you cannot answer those questions, you need to stop and re-evaluate what you are doing, where you are going, and whom you want to become.

There really are no secrets when it comes to vision and goal setting.  You just need to be willing to pursue goals that you are passionate about, and see yourself in your mind’s eye reaching that final destination.  Think about how it will feel once you have reached your goals

Take some time to create a vision and set some goals that will make you cry – whether you attain them or not.  If you do not they will cause you much sorrow and when you do, there will be tears of joy!

What’s Your Plan B?

Most people focus only on their Plan A and put all their eggs into that basket.  Unfortunately, over the years, Plan A, no matter how financially solid it seems, isn’t guaranteed.  Most people have a false sense of security.

Would You Be Able To Cover An Unforeseen $400 Expense?

A whopping 47% of all families in the United States could not cover an unexpected $400 expense, as stated in the Report of the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households by the United States Federal Reserve in May 2015.

$400 doesn’t seem like a whole lot of money, but almost half of Americans do not have it reserved for such an occasion.

If you are slaving away at a J.O.B., what is your perspective for the future?  What assurance do you have for today?

Most employees are just glad to have a job.  They do not anticipate or expect a raise or promotion.

When was the last time you got a bonus?

Many people are living paycheck to paycheck and if they are lucky they are able to pay all of their bills.

Those that are living like this are not able to pay down debt very quickly, if at all, and they don’t have much, if anything, to put away in savings.

Even the most outward appearing stable people could be just a few hundred dollars away from disaster.

We have not been taught to expect anything different; and we have not been taught or encouraged to have a Plan B.

Why not?  Most likely because most institutions just prepare people to be an employee, and most people only have an employee mentality.  You can bet that the majority of those who own the business have not only a Plan B, but a Plan C and D also.

Reliable monthly residual income can help cover the unexpected expenses that always seem to pop up at the most inconvenient times.

Reliable monthly residual income can help pay down debt.

Reliable monthly residual income can build up your savings account.

A Plan B with reliable monthly residual income is a great plan and peace of mind.

A Plan B should never push out Plan A, until it provides much more than Plan A.  You work your Plan B to work yourself out of Plan A, or to work it on your terms.

The ideal supplemental income is not a second or third job.  It is a Plan B that can give you reliable monthly residual income.

Do you keep your options open when it comes to creating a Plan B and earning an additional income?  Or are you satisfied and confident with your Plan A?

If you found value in these success tips, please share your Plan B.   Comment below, or share on www.facebook.com/absorb360

I encourage you to consider a Plan B, especially if you are considering a second job!

Overcoming Mental Blocks In Three Easy Steps

Overcoming mental blocks is important in many areas of our lives, whether health related, business or personal.

One of the biggest mental blocks most people face, is thinking too much.  If we allow ourselves to spend so much time just thinking about the problem at hand, nothing will ever change, except maybe depression will set in.

There are three key steps to take if we desire to make a change, start a project or improve a relationship.

1)    Take action!

We need to take action to prevent ourselves from thinking too much.  If we are busy taking action, we won’t have time to think or dwell on our inadequacies, the circumstance or wallow in self-pity.  If we make the decision to do what needs to be done and start taking the action to get it done, we won’t have to worry about procrastination.

It we think about a health goal we might have, we need to decide what we want to accomplish, make a plan on how to succeed and then TAKE ACTION.

If I want to lose 10 pounds, sitting around and just thinking about what I need to do will not get me any closer to my goal.  Complaining or thinking negative thoughts on how hard it will be to lose 10 pounds also will not help achieve this goal.  Being upset that I ate cake and ice cream will not benefit me either.  All that needs to be done is learn from mistakes, decide what action needs to be done, and then do it!

2)    Change habits to create results!

If we do not change our habits, our results will not change.   We cannot expect to have success or meet our goals if we are not willing to make the necessary changes.  If we continue to do things the way we always did them, we should expect the same results.

Creating the correct habits is what creates the desired results.  This takes conscious effort and diligence.  We don’t always feel like doing what is right or necessary, but we must be able to control our thoughts and actions and do what needs to be done.  If we do not, we have no right to expect change or success.

3)    Be willing to adapt!

Being able to adapt is a game changer.  Few people are willing to take action or change habits, and even fewer people are willing to adapt.

When solving a problem or setting a goal, be humble and be willing to adapt as you walk the course.

Be open to making changes if necessary.

Treading water will get you nowhere.  If you planned on doing the breast stroke and in the middle of the lake you realized that the back stroke would be better for a season, be willing to adapt and switch strategies.

The road to success and achievement in our personal or business life requires us to overcome our mental blocks and to take action, change habits and be willing to adapt.

Take a few minutes and look at your number one goal.  Write a few things down under each of these three categories.

What action should I be taking that I am not?

What habits do I need to change?

How might I need to adapt to new situations or circumstances that have come up on my journey?

If you take the time to honestly evaluate and then do something with the answers you came up with, you will be much closer to
overcoming these mental blocks and achieving your desired goals.

3 Steps To A Better Tomorrow

A better tomorrow begins with better choices and actions today.  Bad choices will not bring a better tomorrow.

We reap what we sow.

What does your garden look like?

What will be coming up tomorrow?

Will it be weeds and thorns or an aromatic bouquet of flowers or a basket full of fruit?

Follow these three steps for a better tomorrow.

1)    Sow seeds.  If we do not sow anything we will not reap anything.  Also consider the seeds you are sowing.  Are they healthy and full of energy or are they sickly and dying?

In addition, consider what kind of seeds you are sowing.  You can’t plant an apple seed and expect to get bananas.

The law is that we reap what we sow.

Take some time to think about the harvest you want and what kind of seeds need to be sown to reap that particular harvest.

2)    Water your seeds.  Once you plant seeds, they need nourishment.  I have learned in the life of my garden that I cannot just plant a tomato plant and then forget about it.  If I do, my harvest is pretty slim picking!

We need to be constantly watering the seeds we are planting.  We should water with education and encouragement.  Each book we read, every mentor we follow or any encouragement we receive, gives us the ability to be stronger and healthier – if we are willing to get the water and absorb what we can on a regular basis.

Our dreams, goals and plans will wither up and die if we do not water them!

3)    Weed the garden!  Get all the negativity out!  You need to be just as diligent here as you do when you water your garden.

This is huge!  Weeds grow incredibly fast and if we do not uproot them right away and get them out of the garden, they will take over and choke out the seed we planted.  Negativity, whether in thought or words, can kill an entire garden.  Doubt is another weed that needs to be controlled right from the start.

If we want a full harvest and if we want to see our goals and dreams flourish, we need to make sure we are planting the right seeds, watering them, and keeping the weeds out!  When we do this, we will enjoy an abundant harvest and a better tomorrow.

Are Your Goals SMART?

Whether we set goals for business or for our personal lives, they need to be SMART if we hope to succeed.

Our goals should inspire us and motivate us to take action.  They should ignite a fire in our mind and soul.

The November 1981 issue of Management Review contained a paper by George T. Doran called There's a S.M.A.R.T. way to write management's goals and objectives.  He gave us the acronym S.M.A.R.T. to help us understand if our goals are worthy to be pursued and how to go about pursuing them.

Ideally, if we want to succeed and attain our goals, they should be S.M.A.R.T.

•    Specific – target a specific area for improvement.
•    Measurable – quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress.
•    Assignable – specify who will do it.
•    Realistic – state what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources.
•    Time-related – specify when the result(s) can be achieved.

We need to combine objective and action.  We can’t just have a great plan, but we need to take action.

Just like if we planned the perfect route to get to the perfect destination, we would still need to get in the car and drive.  Standing in the Minnesota snow with a great map to get us to Florida, won’t bring us any closer to the ocean if we don’t get moving!

Paul J. Meyer describes the characteristics of S.M.A.R.T. goals in Attitude is Everything.

Specific

Your goal must be clear and detailed.  To make goals specific, you must know exactly what you expect to achieve.  Consider why it is important to you and what life will be without achieving it.

A specific goal will usually answer the five 'W' questions:

•    What: What do I want to accomplish?
•    Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.
•    Who: Who is involved?
•    Where: Identify a location.
•    Which: Identify requirements and constraints.

Measurable

Secondly, we need to be able to progress toward the goal. The thought behind this is that if a goal is not measurable it is not possible to know whether you are making progress toward the goal. Measuring progress helps us to stay on track.

A measurable goal will usually answer questions such as:

•    How much?
•    How many?
•    How will I know when it is accomplished?
•    Indicators should be quantifiable

Attainable

The third thing we must consider is if our goals are realistic and attainable. Goals should stretch us and be something worth striving to attain.  They should neither be below our ability or out of reach.

An achievable goal will usually answer the question How?

•    How can the goal be accomplished?
•    How realistic is the goal based on other constraints?

Relevant

The fourth area of importance is choosing goals that matter. The goal to “make lunch by 12 pm” may be specific, measurable, attainable and time-bound, but it lacks relevance.

A relevant goal can answer yes to these questions:

•    Does this seem worthwhile?
•    Is this the right time?
•    Does this match our other efforts/needs?
•    Are you the right person?

Time-bound

The final criteria stresses the importance setting your goals within a time-frame, giving them a date to be completed. A commitment to a deadline helps you to not only complete your goal, but often complete it before the due date. This part of the SMART goal is intended to help us not get side-tracked with the Tyranny of the Urgent.  By setting a time frame, we create a sense of urgency.

A time-bound goal will usually answer the question:

•    When?
•    What can I do six months from now?
•    What can I do six weeks from now?
•    What can I do today?

So, are your goals SMART Take a few minutes and sit down with your goals and run them through this test.  If you need to make a few changes, don’t hesitate.  Do it today!  You will be one step closer to achieving your dreams.

3 Ways To Get More Out Of Life

Are you satisfied with the staus quo, or do you want more out of life?

If you are like me, you want all that life has to offer.  You are not satisfied with mediocrity or the status quo.

You want the most out of life!

If that is the case, but you are not seeing the results, here are 3 D’s  to follow that will lead you down the road to an incredible life.

1.    DECIDE – This is ALL attitude!

First you need to decide that you want more than you have.

Then, immediately after that decision, you must decide that you are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve what you desire.  If you are not willing to make that decision, nothing will ever change.

Everything starts in your mind!

Make the commitment that you will not quit when you are challenged or when adversity strikes.  You will be more successful if you decide this in advance.

Like they say:  Winners never quit, and quitters never win!

You need a firm decision to do what needs to be done untilregardless of

2.    DISCIPLINE – This is ALL action!

If you want big results, you need big actions.  You can’t climb a mountain by crawling over ant hills.

Discipline is a learned skill, so practice it.

Work smarter, not harder.  Discipline yourself so you are making the most of every minute of every day.

Discipline is a choice.  You either choose to do what you need to do, or you don’t.  There is no middle ground.  You are the only determining factor.

Decide in your mind what you want to do and then discipline yourself to do what it takes.  It sounds very easy, and it really is, if you just make the decision and DO!  Don’t think about doing or not doing, just DO it!

3.    DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY!

If you want different results, then you need to do things differently than you are currently doing.  Many people want the rewards, but very few are willing to sacrifice and give their blood, sweat and tears to accomplish anything beyond the status quo.

I love this wisdom…if you always do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always gotten.

If you want things to change, you need to change.  The things you do or how you do them need to change as well.

Start today!  Write down three things you can change now that will help you to change your status quo and make your life more than it is today.

If you want more out of life, then there is no reason why you should not have it.  You are the only one holding yourself back and accepting the status quo.  You have a decision to make right now.  Are you going to commit to change?  Or are you willing to live the status quo another day?

Decide to make changes.

Discipline yourself to make the needed changes.

Do things differently!

If you want to see radical changes in your life, make radical changes in your attitude, your actions and how you do things.

Make the choice and believe in yourself that you can do what it takes to have an extraordinary life!

Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination comes from the Latin word “pro cras”, meaning “for tomorrow”.  It means pushing something off until the last minute or failing to do it at all.

Procrastination not only causes us to miss deadlines, but, it can leave us feeling guilty, inadequate, or depressed.

If procrastination leaves us feeling so bad, then why do we do it?

-    Fear Of Failure
-    Fear Of Success
-    Negative Self-Beliefs
-    Being Too Busy
-    Being Disorganized
-    Poor Planning And Time Management
-    Depression

* It is essential to reflect on the price we pay every time we procrastinate. *

We create stress, anxiety and depression and it can also cost us in our relationships, career advancements, employment opportunities or in our grades in school.

Since we know this, we NEED to resolve to do something about it!

The earlier we can stop ourselves in the cycle of procrastination, the easier it will be to get back on track.

So, how do we do this?

1.    Break down your specific task or goal into small, manageable steps.
2.    Write a schedule and set a date by which each step will be completed.
3.    GET STARTED!

Take one step at a time so you don’t overwhelm yourself.

Reward yourself a little when you complete each step.  Then keep following your schedule and start the next task.
No matter if they are big or small tasks or goals, we need to put procrastination aside if we desire to overcome.

As you complete each step you will gain confidence and soon you will have reached your goal or completed the task.  You have overcome procrastination!

Congratulate yourself and keep pressing on to overcome your next desire to procrastinate!
