Is WORK A Four Letter Word?

What comes to mind when you hear the word work?

Pain?  Necessary evil?  Something to avoid?

Most people just want to get it over with.  They want to retire.  Sunday evening most people dread getting up the next day to go to work.

This is usually an employee mindset.  Do the work so you can go have fun.  Work 50 weeks so you can have two weeks of vacation.

Entrepreneurs think differently.  Work is not a negative.  Work is the key to fortune and happiness.  It is the key to purpose and growth.

If you have a negative mindset about work, you can only go so far in life.  Your mindset needs to be re-framed.  You need to look at work as an opportunity, an opportunity to grow and make life better, not only for yourself, but for others as well.  When you have this mindset you will look at work with excitement and enthusiasm.  You will rest in order to gain more strength to continue working.  Your work will be your joy and your passion..

If you work just to retire, then what?  What purpose is there?  To just hang around?  Our purpose should not be to just make a dollar and pay the bills.  Yes, we need to make a dollar so we can survive.  We need to pay bills so we can survive.  But, life can be more than just survival and living paycheck to paycheck and bills to more bills.  If you are willing to change your mindset and be passionate about your work, your life could be so much richer.

There is nothing wrong with being an employee.  It is a career choice and life choice.  Unfortunately, many employees have never considered anything different.

I personally have had an entrepreneurial mindset my whole life.  I am diligent in making plans and taking action.  From my first entrepreneurial adventure of selling my sisters toys, to starting a couple businesses in Russia, I have enjoyed my work.  Now, that doesn’t mean it is easy or always “fun”.  Work is laborious.  But the PURPOSE of your labor is much more enjoyable.  Working to build your empire, rather than someone else’s is much more rewarding.  The Bible even says that it is a blessing to enjoy one's work.

Today, the mission of my primary business is enhance other people’s lives and help them to reach their goals.  When I worked in a factory one summer or in a gas station, there wasn’t a lot of purpose except to get my paycheck.  In any business or job, we receive a paycheck, but that doesn’t have to be the end goal.  There can be so much more to work than just a paycheck!

Another business I am growing has a mission to inspire, challenge, encourage and empower people.  With this business I am still shoveling manure, but it is such a joy, manure and all!
