This Year I Will… 4 Steps To A Successful Start In 2016

Now that you have assessed 2015 and know what you need to change in order for 2016 to be more successful, you need to finish your plan if you don’t have a specific outline with detailed steps, and you need to start taking action immediately

Every day you let slip by is one day further from your desired goal, and in fact it begins to create a wall that you will need to scale in order to get moving.

Writing goals and steps help you to have a better chance of taking action.

#1 – Write Your Top Five Lessons You Learned In 2015

These can be lessons on what to do or what not to do.  They can be new skills you attained, or they can be something you read or a lesson from watching someone else.

#2 – Finish This Sentence - This year I will…

...accomplish, learn how to…  Be specific!

Don’t just write, “I will increase my income.”  Write specifically how much you will increase it.  “I will increase my income by $20,000.”

Don’t just write, “I will be a better mother.”  Write specifically how you plan to be a better mother.  “I will spend at least 20 minutes each day doing what my child wants to do with me.”

Don’t just write, “I will to lose weight.”  Be specific on the amount.  “I will lose 30 pounds.”

#3 – Finish This Sentence - This is important to me be because…

Again, write in detail

What will the extra $20,000 allow you to do?  Pay off debt?  Take a family vacation?  It is not about the money, but about what the money will allow you to do.

Why is spending the 20 minutes a day important to you and your child?  Be specific.  Put some feeling into it.

Why do you want to lose 30 pounds?  How will that make you feel?  How will that affect your health or your self-image?

#4 – List 3 New Actions that You Will Implement In The Next 30 Days

I will…1, 2, 3

"I will spend an extra hour every day at work."
"I will schedule in 20 minutes every day at 3:30 to spend time with my child."
"I will cut bread out of my afternoon and evening meals."

If you follow these four steps for the next 30 days, you will be one month closer to reaching your goal for 2016.  You will also be on the road to developing habits that will create momentum to propel you forward the next month and throughout the year.

Revisit these four steps and each month write a new #4.  Do you need to continue doing the same thing?  Maybe that didn’t work and you need to try something different.  Most likely, you will begin to see little successes that will encourage you to keep on keeping on.
